a what?
Ok, so here's the deal. Back at my last job, I was the de facto staff photographer. I really enjoyed taking pictures and the group I worked for liked having things documented. So that worked out quite well. At some point, it was decided that we needed to display this documentation in a festive manner. Thus my career as a photocollager was born. (Photocollagist? It probably doesn't matter since, either way, I am making it up.*)
Anyway, it turns out I have a knack for putting pictures together so they look presentable. The example below was printed out as a 2' x 4' banner and mounted on foam core board to commemorate the opening of Mannion House for Fairview Recovery Services. Click on the thumbnail for a larger version.

what for?
I have created these poster-sized collages for Anniversaries, Goings Away, Building Openings, and Baby Congratulations. I imagine they could be given for any occasion where you want a professional-looking gift with the most personal of touches. (Does that sound like a Hallmark card, or what?) Not that it has to be for a gift. It could simply be another way to display some favored images. It's up to you, I just make the stuff. Lovingly, of course. Moving on.
details
I can create these collages with digital images, printed photos or a combination of both. I'll use the utmost care with your "old school" pictures and scan them at high resolution. I'll give you a CD or DVD of all the pictures I scan, so it's an archival service, as well. Printing and mounting of the collage is optional and prices vary by size, paper quality, and mounting method. Printed or not, you will receive a disc with your high-quality collage in a range of image sizes. Collages can take the form of anything you might desire. In addition to the house example above, previous projects have included stars, a simple symmetrical layout of individual photos, and even a developing fetus!
how much
Projects can range anywhere from under $50 for a few digital images printed on photo paper up to several thousand dollars for a billboard-sized mega-collage with hundreds of pictures that need to be scanned. Since there are so many options, it would be impractical to provide a rigid pricing structure here. Contact me with your needs and we can work on a concept and cost that will suit you!
what i bring to the proverbial table
- Creative flair
- Ability to use multiple image sources
- Great problem solving ability
- Strong communication skills to understand what you're looking to create
editor's note
* This is not true. It turns out "collagist" is indeed the proper term for one who makes a collage. But seeing as how I've been calling myself a photocollager for a good time now, I'm just going to carry on with the ruse that I'm making it all up.
